Craig Matola

Craig Matola was born and raised in Lake Orion, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. Drawn to art from an early age, he found his path in high school, often skipping swim practice to spend hours in the ceramics studio. Encouraged by his ceramics teacher to explore industrial design, Craig went on to earn his BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2018.

A lifelong outdoorsman and Eagle Scout, Craig grew up exploring the Great Lakes region’s forests and islands and taking extended backpacking trips in the mountains of New Mexico. He later worked a season in the backcountry at Philmont Scout Ranch, deepening his commitment to conservation and craftsmanship inspired by nature.

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2018, Craig has built a career at the intersection of art, design, and fabrication, contributing to large-scale installations, custom interiors, and collectible objects. In 2022, he completed the 265-mile John Muir Trail, a reminder of the landscapes that fuel his creative vision. Today, as co-founder of Dew Studio, Craig channels his love for the outdoors into thoughtful, well-crafted designs that make spaces more meaningful and enjoyable.
